This site will endeavor to contribute reason to the debate about Saudi politics. It will investigate relevant aspects of the Saudi polity, and will supply commentary about it. Though aware that information about local Saudi affairs is not readily available, the analytical nature of this newsletter will allow it to draw analogies and reach (hopefully) enlightening conclusions. In the first half of October the Saudi cabinet announced its intention to hold partial municipal elections to take place in one year. The royal family will keep a role for itself, as half of the membership of these councils will be appointed by the King or those representing him.
Tony Khater, publisher and editor, holds a J.D. and a Ph.D in political science. He is an attorney who is active in private practice and lives in Washington, D.C. In addition, he has served as the National Coordinator of the American-Arab Anti-Discrimination Committee (ADC) and Special Assistant to the Executive Director of the National Association of Arab-Americans (NAAA). Tony is fluent in Arabic and French.
