The Saudi government has been nothing but hyper-active in executing its policy of “lam al-shaml”—to gather up the Arabs. (See prior post.)
Superficially, the idea, post-Retrenchment of the Israel-Anchored Idiots, is to form as much of an Arab block as possible. That block is to face up to Iran.
On a less superficial level, however, this policy is meant in good part to defuse Arab Sunni revanchism, the Iraqi in particular. This revanchism is directed at the Saudi ruling elite for its partnership with the Israel-Anchored Idiots - - Crusader, Bald Samson, and the Israel Boys - - in the invasion and dismemberment of Arab Iraq and the disenfranchising of its Arab Sunnis - - an extension, tribe-and-clan, of the Arab Sunnis of Saudi Arabia.

Saudi Arabia’s Minister of Finance is to meet with Syria’s, and there will be orchestration of a meeting between Saudi and Syrian businessmen. Buying off Syria is serious business, if only to have that state nip Iraqi Baath revanchism (the one currently operating out of Syria) in the bud.
Qatari businessmen recently have been invited to Saudi Arabia and have been shown the terrific profit-making potential of investing in the kingdom. Too, Qatar and Saudi Arabia just signed a bunch of agreements.
It’s important to the Saudi ruling elite to defuse IN FULL the animosity between itself and the Qatari elite, if only to try to eliminate financing by Qatar (a rich source of “cargo” in the politics of the region, as “cargo giving” as Saudi Arabia) of Iraqi and Arab Sunni revanchism.

You may ask: Can’t one take at face value the fact that the Saudi ruling elite is sincere about “lam al-shaml,” wanting an Arab block to stand up to the Islamic Republic? If you thought that, then you’d think that the Saudi ruling elite is extremely naïve. Which it is not. (It had helped The Israel Boys for self preservation—because these had placed it under the gun, so to speak. And it’s containing Arab Sunni revanchism for the same reason.) It couldn’t be that this elite would think for a moment that Qatar, safe under the umbrella of U.S. protection and un-needing therefore of Saudi Arabia for its security, would quit on its role as one bridge (Syria is the other) between the Islamic Republic and the Arab nation. Qatar, after all, had created for itself that role a while ago and wouldn’t want to shed it to be part of a Saudi-led Arab block. Saudi Arabia, without an effective army to speak of, hardly can call the shots any longer in the Arabian Peninsula. It has been replaced by America’s protective umbrella, made all the more necessary after the elimination of the balancer of Iranian power - - once-Arab Iraq. In the absence of an effective army, the Saudi ruling elite is trying to regain influence using investment opportunities (Qatari businessmen) and payoffs (Syria.) In both efforts, however, the aim is the same: contain Arab Sunni revanchism, the Iraqi in particular, against the Saudi ruling elite.

In short: the Saudi ruling elite’s rapprochement with the Qatari is a function of that elite’s wish for its Qatari counterpart to desist from financing Arab Sunni revanchism against it and NOT of any serious assessment by that elite that it can in fact lead an Arab block against Iran.

NEUTRALIZING REVANCHISM WITHIN THE ARAB SUNNIS OF IRAQ
A recent development has been the visit by Ayad Allawi with King Abdallah, in the presence of the chief of Saudi intelligence. (That’s not the first time Allawi has met with the chief of Saudi intelligence.)
To many Arabs, Ayad Allawi is the CIA man, and the man of British intelligence. To many Arabs, Allawi played a critical role in the preparations for the invasion of Arab Iraq—and eventual dismemberment. (He would cry “foul,” I’m sure, about the dismemberment. But, in the end, if you’re that naïve to think you can couple up with Israel-Anchored Idiots and not end up being a stooge for these Israel-obsessed people - - for the nursed-and-loved State-within-the State - - then you’re naïve, indeed.) The Shiite Allawi, however, is an old Baathist - -though, I’m certain, perceived as a traitor and in the end a useless dummy by many of the revanchists - - and he is secular—therefore he should be relatively popular among the disenfranchised minority Arab Sunnis.
His visit with King Abdallah likely was coordinated by the Idiots. These seem to be grooming Allawi as Prime-Minister to replace Maliki - - the Idiots’ (lynching) man, who believed his own rhetoric only to be emaciated by Iran and Syria (Black Sunday and Black Wednesday.) Surprisingly to some, perhaps, both Iran and Syria are said to be backing Allawi’s candidacy, helped along by Ammar al-Hakim (Iran) and the Kurdish warlords (the Israel-Anchored Idiots.)
The Idiots need Allawi - - their man - - at the helms to face-save for them to get the troops out. Iran and Syria are playing along, if only to provide that wished-for face-saving way out for U.S. troops. You might object: But the Idiots aren’t going to get fully out. My response: For Iran, having 50,000 U.S. troops in Iraq and a couple of thousand of mercenaries - -plus two democracy mules - - instead of 130,000, is a good deal indeed: You still would have targets/hostages, but not overwhelming military presence. To Iran, it’s a good deal. (I wouldn’t put it past the Idiots to have reached a secret understanding - -and to be working on a memo of the kind - - with the Iranians. I would be doing the same, and have advised it in this blog. Allawi is said to be heading to Iran soon.)
But why would the Saudi ruling elite support Allawi’s candidacy, and what benefits does it hope to get out of it?
1. To the Saudi ruling elite, supporting Allawi’s candidacy should be perceived as part of Saudi coordination with the Idiots. The Idiots want out; Allawi saves face for them; so be it. The Saudi ruling elite can never afford to alienate the Idiots.
2. And there’s benefit for the Saudi ruling elite in supporting Allawi’s candidacy. The benefit: Allawi helps defuse a chunk of Arab Sunni revanchism, since Allawi is respected by a chunk of the Arab Sunnis of Iraq for his secularism. It might be a passing thing - - Allawi’s benefit to the Saudi ruling elite - - but, hey - -it doesn’t hurt, either.
a. It’s said that the Saudi ruling elite is financing the Sunni Islamists in Iraq - -the ones who kill Shiite pilgrims. It’s claimed that that policy aims to weaken the Shiite state in that country. But that policy does something else, too: that policy by the Saudi ruling elite has the benefit of directing revanchism away from the Saudi ruling elite and against Iran (and the Iraqi Shiites.) That policy therefore deflects revanchism off the Saudi ruling elite.
b. The Saudi ruling elite’s support of Allawi follows the same rationale, though not to the extent of killing Shiites. It defuses some of the natural revanchism among a chunk of the Iraqi Arab Sunnis - - albeit relatively briefly - - until, that is, Allawi proves to be as much of a failure as the Israel Idiots’ lynching man - - the Nelson Mandela (not) of Plantation Iraq.
